DISCUSS
We discuss your project, what you want to achieve, how and by when, including who else needs to be involved and elements that may prove crucial to success.
Co-design is central to my approach to working with a client. As a client, you will have a brief describing what you want to be done and often how you will want it to be done. As someone who has commissioned work from consultants before becoming one, I have always thought that consultants can bring knowledge and add value to the work I was commissioning, and I hope you will welcome my input into your project. Likewise, if the work requires the involvement of third parties, it is valuable to get their input into the aims and the planning of the work.
I used tried and tested project management methodologies and tools suitable for global health projects. However, I use these within a systems thinking framework, such as Soft System Methodology (SSM) and Viable Systems Model (VSM) that I found more suitable for global health projects than other project management framework (like PRINCE 2 to name only one).
I also use “modern technologies” for project management. These include cloud storage facilities to share documents and collaborative work, online whiteboards, and other interactive tools for engagement. I’ll happily teach their use to those unfamiliar with them. I only use these tools for the benefit they bring, not because they are fancy or “neat”. It is important not to be prisoner of technology.
Flexibility is important in project management and with good monitoring practice, it is possible for the project to evolve as we move along. As with co-design, change is something not to be afraid of, sometimes, if not often, it can be for the best.
Besides my experience, I offer a personalised service and I will listen to your needs with the aim to fulfil these to the best of my ability.
I usually respond to published request for proposals but I also welcome enquiries from clients. I will happily discuss your project with you at no cost. Standard process goes as follow:
We discuss your project, what you want to achieve, how and by when, including who else needs to be involved and elements that may prove crucial to success.
I prepare a workplan including cost (potentially modular) with a Gantt chart, milestones, deliverables and a timeline for you to review and provide input. This will be an iterative process.
We start with a kick-off meeting to ensure all those involved in the project know what is going to happen and their role and contribution in the project.
We meet regularly to check on progress, matters arising and ensure we are on time and on budget. Good communication is paramount to good collaboration.
Once all deliverables are in, we close the project.
